Funding Relief Issues

The experience of the Fund in recent years has shown that the liaison with the local recovery committee in setting up criteria for assessing relief requests is extremely important.

This is the case when there is just the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund involved and becomes increasingly difficult and complex when multiple funding bodies become involved.

The disbursement process needs to be efficient, fair and accountable. It also needs to include processes which allow for follow-ups and reviews, if necessary.

These processes become seriously compromised when multiple organisations are involved. There is also an unnecessary additional pressure placed on local recovery committees.

The Board therefore strongly recommends that the State Policy is strictly adhered to which will ensure disbursement to be fairly and efficiently processed thereby achieving the best outcome for those who have experienced distress.


The costs of administering the Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund are wholly absorbed by the City of Perth, so 100 per cent of all funds raised go directly to those in need.
