About the Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund

The Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund was established in 1961 to provide relief of personal hardship and distress arising from natural disasters occurring within Western Australia. The perpetual fund is a registered charitable body and has approval of the Australian Taxation Office for tax deductibility of contributions.

Over the years the fund has assisted with relief appeals for many natural disasters, including the Dwellingup Fires in 2007, the Toodyay Fire Appeal in 2010, and in two appeals in 2011 for the Gascoyne and Mid-West Floods and the Perth Hills Fire, the Parkerville Fire Appeal in 2014 and the Esperance Fires Appeal in 2015.

The costs of administering the Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund are wholly absorbed by the City of Perth, so 100 per cent of all funds raised go directly to those in need.
